Growing Cucumbers on the Lock Farm

June 26, Farmer John needs a ladder to pick cucumbers.

 

 

 

Cucumbers can be enjoyed right from the garden, on vegetable trays, in salads or soups. They are low in calories and supply fiber to the diet.

First Day of Summer

It’s the first day of summer and the Lock Farm has:
cucumbers, broccoli, kohlrabi, beets, kale and garlic for sale at the farm at 822 Ritner Highway, Shippensburg.

Little Bear Is Checking the Weather
Lock Farm’s Little Bear is wondering if the sun is going to shine today.
Despite the many rainy days Farmer John has many delicious crops ready for sale at the Lock Farm and through the Thursday Market.

It Does Not Take Long

In a short amount of time the cucumber plants have grown to be over ten feet tall. Cucumbers, peppers and much more will be available through the Lock Farm during the summer months.

Cucumbers Arrive at the Lock Farm

In less than a week these ‘little ones’ will be all grown up and ready to go into the Lock Farm Fields to Meals. Others will be sold through Lock Farm’s Thursday Market or at our farm stand in Shippensburg.

Our garlic was planted in October. Weeks ago we started crops that will be planted in our high tunnel.
