Project Garlic Scapes

Early this morning Farmers John and Mary went out into the field to cut garlic scapes. They came back with two large baskets full.

The scapes will be put into bundles and made ready  market.

 

Some will packed and go to the Shippensburg Auction Center.

Others will become part of a Lock Farm Fields to Meals.

And some will be available for sale at the Lock Farm.

A Sign for the Times

As many are looking for a source for fresh, seasonal vegetables the LOCK FARM makes it easier to find such items. A new sign was erected on the farm. It stands right in front of one of the active fields. It was designed and put in place by Cary Murray of Walnut Bottom Signs.

We like it and hope our customers do too.

We also hope that many passersby will think of the benefits of eating seasonally grown produce and stop by.

Saturday at the Lock Farm

It is time for weeding and watering.

Tomatoes in a container get watered automatically through a drip.

There Is Some Good News

While things seem to be bad all around the good news at the Lock Farm is that our crops are growing on schedule. It is our hope that all these will grow well and that we will have lots of fresh vegetables to serve the needs of our customers and the community.

A Simple Summer Salad

PASTA SALAD

Ingredients
1 pound cooked, drained and cooled pasta
16 ounces Italian style dressing or your favorite salad dressing
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
½ onion, chopped
1 cucumber peeled and chopped
1 4-oz can of black olives
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions
In a large bowl place tomatoes, pepper
onion, olives and cheese.
Add cooled pasta.
Pour salad dressing over top.
Toss to coat vegetables.
Chill before serving
